Welcome to Blackwell Playhouse..

Atlanta’s family theater.  Founded by Artistic Director John Christian in 1990, our theater has grown from a 20-seat puppet theater to a two-stage 5,000 square foot diversified family theater- ranging from live theater, featuring original works by local and new playwrights, to after-school programs and summer camps. 

Blackwell Playhouse runs family and children’s plays throughout the year, providing the community with a venue that offers not only live theater for our audience, but an opportunity to audition for and perform in theater, to work behind the scenes in stage management, costume design, and technical assistance, or to even write your own manuscript and have it performed on stage as one of our yearly productions.

Our playhouse is involved in every level of theater including an internship program with a curriculum approved by local universities as a requirement of dramatic arts degrees.

 Blackwell Playhouse also offers advertising through programs, flyers and website links along with stage rentals used for recitals, meetings, private parties and churches.
